Frequently Asked Questions
What is Tailored Tutoring?
Tailored Tutoring is a structured tutoring and academic support centre in Benoni, helping learners in Grades 7–12 and Year 13 for the British Curriculum—reach their academic potential in a supportive environment.
Is Tailored Tutoring a school or a tutoring centre?
We are a tutoring centre rather than a traditional school. Learners follow their chosen curriculum while receiving structured academic support, tutoring, guidance and additional support where needed.
Who is Tailored Tutoring for?
Our centre is designed for learners who may not thrive in a traditional high school environment and would benefit from a more personalised, structured approach to their education.
Rather than following the traditional school model, learners can complete their chosen academic pathway in a supportive tutoring-centre environment, with structured academic time, individual attention and access to additional support.
We work with each learner according to their circumstances, academic goals and chosen curriculum, while helping them develop the independence, responsibility and skills they need for their next step.
What does a typical day at Tailored Tutoring look like?
Learners follow a structured academic timetable based on their curriculum and subjects. Their day combines independent work, tutor-led support and time to complete and consolidate their academic requirements.
Are learners taught in classes or individually?
Each grade is together in a small easy to help class. This allows us to give individual attention and tutor support. Our approach allows us to give learners personalised assistance while still benefiting from a classroom environment. We do not combine different grades together like many of the other tutoring centres.
Do learners work at their own pace?
Yes and No. Students need to work within the requirements of their chosen curriculum. We recognise that learners do not all learn at the same pace, so we work with each learner to identify where they are academically and what support they need to complete all tasks before the required deadlines.
Can a learner join during the school year?
Subject to availability and an assessment of their current academic pathway, learners may be able to join during the year. We will first establish where they are academically and what would be required to integrate them into our programme.
How do you communicate with parents about their child's progress?
We believe parents should have a clear understanding of how their child is progressing. We communicate with parents regarding academic progress, areas of concern and any support that may be required.
Do you provide support beyond academics?
Yes. We believe education is about more than completing schoolwork. We offer academic support, counselling and performance coaching to help learners develop both academically and personally.
What happens if my child falls behind?
We first identify why they are falling behind. We then work with the learner to create a practical plan to address outstanding work and get them moving forward again.
Do you help learners prepare for exams?
Yes. Exam preparation, revision strategies, understanding content and learning how to approach assessments can all form part of our academic support.
What if my child is capable but simply isn't performing
This is something we encounter regularly. Sometimes the issue isn’t ability but motivation, organisation, confidence, study habits or other barriers. We work to understand the learner rather than simply telling them to “work harder.”.
Can you help a learner who is struggling academically?
Absolutely. We identify areas where a learner is struggling and provide targeted academic support to help them understand the work, build confidence and make progress.
Do you have an Aftercare facility?
Unfortunately we do not have an aftercare but do have staff doing extra lessons after 14h00 if you are running late.
